Arrive in the evening and settle at the rim campsite.
After dinner, hike to the crater area. Although the visible lava lake has been inactive in recent
years following a major eruption, the volcano remains geologically active, with steam emissions
and frequent underground activity that can often be heard during the night.
Overnight: Erta Ale Rim Camp (Camping)
Optional sunrise viewing from the volcano rim before breakfast. Drive back to Mekelle and
board the evening flight to Addis Ababa.
