Tour Itinerary

Upon arrival at Mekele Airport, meet your guide and driver before beginning the scenic drive toward the Geralta Mountains. Along the way, stop to visit the famous Abraha Atsbeha Church, one of the oldest and most impressive rock-hewn churches in northern Ethiopia.

Afterwards, continue driving to Hawzen and Geralta for hotel check-in and lunch. In the afternoon at around 2:00 pm, begin the climb to Abune Yemata Guh, a spectacular cliffside monastery famous for its breathtaking views and ancient religious paintings. Meanwhile, enjoy panoramic scenery across the rugged Tigray landscape before witnessing sunset from the top of the mountain.

Finally, drive back to Geralta Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, depart from Hawzen and drive toward the Danakil Depression through Mekele. As the landscape changes dramatically, travelers experience one of the hottest and lowest places on Earth.

Upon arrival in the Danakil region, explore colorful geothermal areas, salt flats, and volcanic desert scenery. In addition, visitors can observe Afar salt-mining activities and unique geological formations shaped by volcanic activity.

Overnight stay at Ahmedela Camp near Dallol.

In the morning, descend from Erta Ale and drive toward Semera via Afdera. Along the route, stop at Lake Afdera for lunch and a refreshing swim in the mineral-rich lake.
