Tour Itinerary
The journey starts in Semera. Drive through the Afar desert toward Erta Ale, also known as the “Smoky Mountain.”
The drive takes around 6 hours. Along the way, travelers pass lava fields, rocky landscapes, and desert plains. After arriving at the campsite, begin the evening trek to the volcano.
Spend the night near the crater rim while watching the glowing lava lake.
Wake early to enjoy sunrise over the volcano. Afterwards, descend to the base camp for breakfast.
Continue driving toward Dallol. This area is famous for colorful sulfur springs and mineral formations. Additionally, travelers can visit Lake Asale and watch camel caravans crossing the salt flats.
Overnight camping at Hamedela.
In the morning, visit the traditional salt mining fields near Asebo. Local Afar workers cut salt blocks by hand and transport them using camels.
After breakfast, begin the drive back to Semera through Lake Afdera. Stop for lunch and a refreshing swim before continuing to Semera.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the domestic flight to Addis Ababa.
