Flight & Drive | Sunset Experience | Overnight at Hamedila Camp
Your adventure begins with a morning domestic flight from Addis Ababa to Semera, the gateway to the Danakil Depression. Upon arrival, meet your experienced local guide and Afar crew, then drive deep into the Danakil Depression, one of the hottest and lowest places on the planet.
In the afternoon, arrive at Lake Asale (Karum Salt Lake), a vast white salt plain located below sea level. Enjoy a breathtaking sunset over the salt flats, where Afar salt caravans still practice traditional salt mining — a perfect opportunity for photography and cultural observation.
As night falls, continue to Hamedila Camp, set near hot springs and surrounded by dramatic desert scenery.

After breakfast, begin an exciting hiking and climbing adventure to Abune Yemata Guh, one of Ethiopia’s most spectacular and challenging rock-hewn churches. The hike includes cliffside paths and rewarding panoramic views over the Geralta Mountains. Inside the church, admire centuries-old frescoes and religious art.
Continue by vehicle toward Mekele, stopping en route to visit Abraha we Atsbaha, a beautifully preserved 10th-century rock-hewn church, famous for its architectural detail and ancient wall paintings.
Arrive in Mekele for a late lunch, then transfer to Mekele Airport for your evening flight back to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
